New Book Alert

I just finished Passion, the 2nd book in the Fallen Series by Lauren Kate. That review will be added in a few days. I decided to go a little 'old school' and read a book that isn't loaded on my Kindle. It's been 2 years since I read a hardback but I've decided to start City of Bones (The Mortal Instruments) by Cassandra Clare. I'm reading it so I can get it out of the way before the movie.

Review: The Host

The Host- by Stephanie Meyer

Ok, So I read this because the movie version was coming out and wanted to see how it compared to the movies. Hunger Games is a prime example of how books are still better than movies. Anyways moving on! I actually really liked this book but it really didn't start to pick up until about halfway through it. The only downside is that it seemed to drag on and on. Not that it was hard to finish, just that certain parts of the plot could have been wrapped up in half as many chapters. It was also pretty predictable. You figure out most of it 2/3 of the way through. It has a few twists and turns but not many. Personally I love YA books so this should have been right up my alley. I still haven't seen the movie but I am willing to bet the movie is better than the book. Also, it is part of a trilogy. Think Twilight but with aliens. It was published in 2009, but here we are in 2013 and there is still no word on the sequel. Not sure if that is a good thing or a bad thing.

Recommendation: Read it if you have the time but not something I would run out and purchase.

Let me start by saying welcome to My Bookshelf! This is a site for my book reviews and those few other contributors that I think will add a little something different with their point of view!! Just a little info about me. My reading habits trend towards YA books but I like a lot of other types as well. I read on a kindle for the most part. If Its a book/series I really like, I buy the hardback as to "Keep it old school". I write my blog in the same form that I would if I were talking to you face to face.  As I add new contributors to this site, I will ask them to give a brief 'about me' so you will know a little about the writer giving you their opinion.
